Which Doors Do We Walk Through?

Does God open doors that he doesn’t want us walking through?

Does he open doors that we can see through, but he doesn’t want us to walk through?

Sometimes we ask God for something when we are living in fear. When this door opens, and he gives you what you asked for, do you always have to walk through it?

Following Christ is sometimes the most confusing part of our day. We question what God is doing, but even more so we question what God wants us to do. We can say, “Do the Lord’s Will” all we want. We can even add “and you will be blessed” at the end of that statement and it will sound all peachy.

The truth is, it’s an everyday battle to “Do the Lord’s Will.”

Not because of him, but because of us. We sometimes run on emotions that aren’t of God. The Bible says, “for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” In 2 Timothy 1:7

Sometimes our prayer request is us living in that worry and fear that Christ tells us not to be in. God has the power to answer prayers while also giving you a road to walk on that may not serve him best. It may serve you best temporarily but it will not serve the kingdom of God well.

Just yesterday, I was living with this truth in my head. God will give you everything your heart desires if you just go through him to get it.

“Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4)

Our flesh makes us go through the world to do what only God can do. We go to a company that can give us a place to spend our time and energy in exchange for a currency that is getting printed and manipulated by central banks. We go chase false provision from the world. We thank the person who writes the check before we thank God. Love God and Love People, I’m not telling you not to be polite. I am shining the light on who your provider is. God, Jehovah-Jireh. This name for God is used once in the Bible but has such a deep meaning.

Let me share this scripture from the book of Genesis with you:

When they reach the spot God has designated, “Abraham built an altar there and placed the wood in order: and he bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, upon the wood. And Abraham stretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.” (verses 9, 10).

At that point, God calls out for him to stop. Abraham has passed the test. Abraham sees a ram caught in a thicket nearby and offers it for a burnt offering instead of his son (verses 11-13).

“And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide” (verse 14) or “Jehovah-Jireh” (KJV).

Jehovah Jireh thus becomes one of the names for God in the Old Testament—one that emphasizes how He provides for our needs. The Hebrew word, Jireh, means not only “to provide;” it also means “to perceive,” and “to experience.”

Our Lord is the “God Who Provides,” because He is also the “God Who Perceives” our needs—the “God Who Experiences” what we are experiencing and who can therefore provide exactly what we need.

Our greatest need, as humans, is for salvation—forgiveness of our sins and eternal life. The story of Abraham offering Isaac in Genesis 22 is more than just a dramatic illustration of faith and obedience. It is a preview of the salvation God has provided us in the great sacrifice of His Son on the cross.

Jesus, the Lamb who was slain, is the provider for everything for us. All of our needs are in him and he’s who we are to turn to in our times of hurt, stress, worry, and fear. He is the only one that can open the doors we are to walk through. It may be confusing at times to know which door to walk through.

When God opens a door He will never cause you to compromise or contradict His Word. Many times God will confirm His will through His Word and through others such as godly counsel.

You know it’s an open door from God when you have to rely on Him. Some people try to do things in the arm of the flesh, but when it’s God’s will we must ask Him to bless the work of our hands.

We must ask Him to strengthen us and help us daily. If God doesn’t make away there will be no way. Seek first God’s Kingdom. Open doors will strengthen your prayer life and faith.

This is how you know which doors to walk through. The Holy Spirit will give you an uneasy feeling if He wants you to keep a door closed. Keep on knocking on God’s door. Sometimes the door is a little cracked open and God just wants us to persevere in prayer. When the time is right He will fully open the door that is meant to be walked through.

Having faith and trust in God is sometimes the hardest thing to do as a believer. It’s an everyday battle to do the Lord’s Will. We always have to go back to scripture, His word, and the things that we know about God. He works all things for our good. We can make better choices by walking in the Spirit. By having His word on our hearts daily and choosing Christ over culture, worries, and fear.

Closing Remarks

God has revealed this to me in this last season. He is the provider for everything in my life. He has given me my wife, children, house, and purpose in life. He is Jehovah-Jireh and we can rest easy knowing that God’s got us! The world can be falling apart, corruption in a million ways, but just know God is bringing the darkness to the light out there while bringing us closer into his light as the world burns. We have an opportunity to represent the true church, the body of Christ that needs to match the head, so Christ can come get his bride.

We have the chance to represent Naked Christianity. The book of Acts never ended, we can represent that with this ministry. We can work for the kingdom of God and less work for the world. He will provide our needs and open the doors you are supposed to walk through. Don’t let the god of this world, the enemy, confuse you from what God has to say about your life.

Stay in that Bible, soak your mind up with Jesus on the way to and from work. To and from the store. Worship big in the car. Let your kids see you worship the Lord. Buy children’s books that glorify God. Read, write, journal, pray out loud to the Lord. Ask him to reveal himself to you. Invite his presence to enter the room. Open his Word and let your head fall on it in prayer. Let your tears fall on his word. Moms, I promise you he hears your prayers in the shower. Jesus Christ died for you and lives with you. Don’t let your doubt block you from God’s blessings. We are better than that and we love him deeper than we did yesterday. Live in that truth and declare his name over your life. Surrender your own cross and walk with him DAILY. Chose him when your flesh wants to choose something else. Say yes to the things you know he wants you to do. Be obedient, faithful, and serve with joy.
