We Have Been Programmed to Love Money
I hate to admit it, but the fear of not having money or even worst making mistakes with money is something I struggle with. Inside my head is a little voice of fear that spews worried thoughts of market crashes, inflation, and a weakened economy. This fear is one many have and is a cancer to our society. Paired alongside the millions of people in debt, it’s as if we are enslaved to a system we didn’t sign up for. We were born into it and were programmed to be obsessed with money in America. Not just money, but all the things money brings.
My relationship with money has changed since knowing Christ. I can now see the financial world through a new lens. Yet, I still know so little. I’m a baby in my studies of finance. I’m a toddler at best. But I'm like a jacked toddler who wears tank tops and drinks Topo Chicos.
I pay attention to the markets, data, and dialogue that’s had around Wall Street, the Fed, and yes, even the #Bitcoin gurus. I must admit, I’m lost at times but also rest easier when I take a step back and see that God is in control of all of my finances. He’s been blessing me my entire life and even more so when I gave my life to Christ in 2020.
The fear of the worst outcome exists because I don’t trust “man.” The trust in God keeps me grounded and let’s be honest, in the markets. Stocks, ETFs, Gold, Silver, and Yes even Crypto. My portfolio is diversified enough to protect myself, unless everything crashes then I'll just hold until you I'm fifty-nine and a half right? If God wants me to be well off, that’s on Him. If He wants me to invest my money and see it grow over time, that’s on Him. If He wants me going back to paycheck to paycheck living, then that’s His will.
Despite whichever outcome takes place, I rest easy knowing what the Bible says about Him meeting our every need. From food to clothing, to even the roof over our heads. God has blessed us with being debt-free and having a healthy relationship with money and materialistic things. He has also blessed me with a money-making mindset, street smart hustling abilities, and my personal favorite a work ethic that will blow the roof off of the guy next to me. As long as it’s working towards something I love. For example, comedy when I use to put on four shows a week, two shows a month, and perform 6 out of 7 nights a week. Now with this ministry, I am grinding. I have nearly 100 episodes in just a little over a year. Multiple merch roll-outs, plenty of content for my fellow birdhouse blog readers, and even finished building this website. Work ethic for the things you love and are pursuing is the most efficient way to make money. Because when the money comes you’ll just be doing what you have been doing. Granted I am not there yet in this pursuit but it took me a few years to make real money in stand-up. I also never did stand up for money and I never wanted to tell people about Jesus for money. The money is just the fruit God will give you if you walk in His will.
I am blessed to say these words for the first time in my life, "I don’t have a real job or a boss," but I have the charisma, talent, and mind He blessed me with to attract money. I can’t let the fear of losing our money control the beats to my drum.
Christ doesn’t have me on this journey around the country to worry and stress about my finances. I hope this piece helps you see money differently and gives you a new lens on how to approach something we obsess and even overstress. God’s GOT YOU!
